HELP HELP HELP I AM CONFUSED! "the market did something we didn't expect which is go up for more than three years since it made its bear market low in October 2002." Huh? Wait a minute, wasn't that the reason Bob said to put money in the market?

I am not sure how you came to the conclusion that Bob didn't think the market would go up. I just assumed that his buy signal, or his reallocation meant that it would.

Geez I am ever more confused by what Bob says than I thought.

Bob reminds me of a sales manager we had. When it was time to close the big order this sales manager insisted on going with the salesman to close said order. When they would return the entire office was silent listening for the sales managers comment when they walked in the door. It was either, "I got the order", or "We lost the order".

I caught part of a call yesterday from a guy who had invested $1.2M from his IRA in Qs at 84?, unfortuneately I drove out of range w/o hearing the answer. Did anybody here hear the answer?

Bob has been fairly consistent on never paying income tax until you have to. So his recent Roth advice is a modification. I think conversion depends on an individual's circumstances. If your are going to pay 25% or more and you have nobody to leave it to - why bother?

As to the discussion on whether Bob checks this site; of course he does. According to Honey approximately 50% of the posters ARE Bob Brinker.

bob brinker was not on this whole weekend so it would have been either Terry Savage or her guest who would have handled the question . as far as what i would have done if i were foolish enough to buy Q's and ride them down to $20 bucks a share waiting for another party to tell me when to sell , i would have converted them to a Roth inside that deferred account and at least have gotten he gain from $20 to Q's present value now TAXFREE .

yes i agree with you that the circumstances of a Roth conversion depends on each individual . i disagree with your logic that if there are no heirs , what difference does it make . it makes plenty of difference weither you have heirs or not cause the higher your RMD , the more uncle sam makes and once you get into a high enough tax bracket after age 70 1/2 , there almost no way out .

at 84 years of age that caller's ' divisor ' under the " Table III ( Uniform Lifetime ) " is 15.5 . that calculates to a distribution of $77,419.54 or $1.2m divided by 15.5 . that puts him at the 25% tax backet on the amount above $30,650 according to the 2006 tax rate schedules . which really isn't bad . that callers ' divisor ' next year will be 14.8 at age 85 and the amount of next year's distribution will be determined by his ending value in his deferred accounts on december 31 , 2006 .

i also agree with your math on the growing number of posters who ARE bob brinker . smile . afterall there's inflation to take into account . before it's over with , Honey will have you , me , bob brinker , bob brinker jr. , dija , and others lumped together . it's happened in the past . smile .

hello pete ,

bob brinker was absent the entire weekend . Terry Savage did say bob brinker would be on next weekend . Terry's guest today was excellent . he was a IRA expert and author and covered many of the issues Kirk & I discuss on the Roth conversion forum .

it sounded like Terry recommended this gentleman and referred all her tough IRA questions to him . enjoy

p.s. one of the things i learned from listening today was in the past i assumed that you could lump all deferred accounts together to calculate your RMD at age 70 1/2 and take your distribution from either of your accounts . this expert today lead me to believe one must calculate your 401(k) separate from your IRA separate from your 403(b) , etc . something i'll have to check . ? ?

You may be good at taking pictures, but you are certainly truth-challenged. I have NEVER said even one poster on this site was Bob Brinker.

If you don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you would either stick to the truth when you talk about me, or kindly not do it at all. That way I won't be forced to call you what you obviously are...
