In response to Re: What Secular Bear Market? posted by Kirk:

Great post Kirk. For the benefit of new posters here, you might be interested to know that Bob Brinker monitors this web site, and a few others. He has actually benefitted from many insightful posts on Suite101, as many here have benefitted from his education. On a related note, my sources tell me that Bob Brinker will not be hosting Moneytalk next weekend (February 11-12th). So you can plan your next weekend's schedule accordingly. smile

Come on David, what's with "my sources tell me" stuff. Well my source must be the same as yours. Geeez. Maybe I should write a newsletter also? Take care.

While I am on my soapbox I might as well rant about Bob's critical comments today regarding Bill Gross. I have found Mr. Gross to be more correct than not in most of his prognostications. For Bob to be expecting the market to decline and at the same time poke fun at Mr. Gross for his Dow 5000 comments is hypocritical at best.
If Mr. Brinker is correct the SP 500 will retest lows at 800 or perhaps go lower in the continuing bear market he forecasts, a corresponding decline in the narrowly focused Dow would be around 6400. Plenty of room for overshoot into the 5000's if you ask me.
I forgot, you didnt ask me. My money is on Mr Gross over radio host/newsletter salesman Mr Brinker anyday.

appreciate the honesty SCoe46 . i had guessed it might be Terry since she mentioned on her last bob brinker show hosting that she'd be back soon . i'm just not a frequent visitor to her site .

and maybe , since you too seem to be close to ' David Korn's sources ' , you might consider writing a newsletter . smile

i do question David's opinion that bob watches this site .

Well, its good to know my sources were right! As for the newsletter business, I encourage you to give it a shot, although I suspect you were being facetious. Having published a newsletter almost every weekend for the last 7+ years, I can tell you it takes a lot of devotion and pride in your work to put out a quality product week after week to keep your subscribers satisfied. There are many benefits, however, other than financial gain. Helping others and developing friendships with subscribers is by far the most rewarding. I imagine Kirk can attest to this as well.

p.s. to allancoleman. You will have to take my word for it. Having dealt with the Brinkers (Bob abd Bob Jr. personally), I can only assure you that I am not blowing smoke, although I wouldn't mind a good cigar right now. The good news is that if you post a question here (or a comment), you might here daBrink address it on the show!

In response to Re: Bob Brinker and Suite101 posted by prognosticator:

while i agree with your opinion that bob brinker was a bit harsh with his comments on Bill Gross today and probably no one is better in the fixed income market than Bill , Bill did go out of his field when he incorrectly predicted DOW 5000 awhile back .

and to correct bob latest predictions : bob is still very bullish and is not , at this time , calling for a market decline , much less the SP 500 800 level . IF bob's feeling that we are in a secular bear market is correct , then we could see that 800 level you mention much , much later . but bob isn't even looking that far yet .

if you're putting your money on Bill Gross's bond market suggestions , i'd be very careful as , although Bill is usually correct on his fixed income market comments , Bill also has a whole bunch of fixed income securities to sell buyers for a price higher than he paid for them .

» Sam78 - Re: Re: What Secular Bear Market?...3 year old Cyclical Bull?

Honeyoneohone, I hope I spelled that right...I was not 100% in cash when Bob made the call in March of 2003. I was just acknowleging that since that call the market has gone from S&P 500 trading at 800 or so, to 1200...a 50% rise off the bottom.

So with that said, if I'm Bob Brinker, why not just take your profit and stand pat intstead of going for just another 5% after you've already made the absolute perfect call back in 2003 and made 50% on it?

Thank you for clearing that up for me, Sam78. (You spelled my name just fine.) smile

Perhaps since you were not 100% in cash in March 2003, it was because you were following Bob Brinker's recommendations very closely.

The most Brinker ever took out of his equity-allocation was 65%; and he then recommended returning up to 50% of that cash into his QQQQ trade in October 2000--which was a disaster for many of his subscribers.

In spite of this, he likes to tout the fact that the S&P 500 is "up 50%" which very likely gives a lot of radio listeners false impressions.

Brinker is very bullish right now and I'm sure expects the market to rise more than another 5%.

MOF: It appears like he may be having second thoughts about his whole cyclical/secular market theory.
