You say that you have made 50%+ since Brinker's call of March 2003. He, (Brinker) unlike myself, will not admit to using TA as part of his 'timing model'. My guess is that just like myself, one would continue to lighten long positions as the market climbs into that zone (1250-1280) in the event that it should decline.As of this point, there has been no meaningful breakdown, but has you may have read here some have pulled out in anticipation of a downturn. Keep in mind, when the market turns down in a powerful way, there is frequently a bounce back to the trendline which draws the suckers in and allows others to increase short positions. This may be the point Brinker wants to exit. Of course, this would be 'market timing' which is against all widely accepted investing principles. Brinker is waiting for a sure sign, as am I. In response to What Secular Bear Market?...3 year old Cyclical Bull? posted by Sam78:hello again Sam , agree with your being risk adverse . that's why i mostly pulled out the end of december and further lightened up last week . agree with your feeling that this cyclical bull market is getting long in the tooth . and , like your excellent performance , my best year ever since i retired in 2000 , was last year so , as bob brinker recommends , i've reluctant to risk my critical mass . i did hear bob brinker mention the 1350 level to a caller last summer as a possble high . so may we can all watch to see if that is achieved . i'm also paying attention to Normxxx's prediction way last year that february and march whould be down , middle of this year would be flat , and there would be a rally next fall . and i guess we'll all know that in the fullness of time too . -- posted by allancoleman » David_Korn - Bob Brinker and Suite101 In response to Re: What Secular Bear Market? posted by Kirk:Great post Kirk. I have found Mr. Gross to be more correct than not in most of his prognostications. For Bob to be expecting the market to decline and at the same time poke fun at Mr. Gross for his Dow 5000 comments is hypocritical at best.If Mr. Brinker is correct the SP 500 will retest lows at 800 or perhaps go lower in the continuing bear market he forecasts, a corresponding decline in the narrowly focused Dow would be around 6400. Plenty of room for overshoot into the 5000's if you ask me. I forgot, you didnt ask me. As for the newsletter business, I encourage you to give it a shot, although I suspect you were being facetious. Having published a newsletter almost every weekend for the last 7+ years, I can tell you it takes a lot of devotion and pride in your work to put out a quality product week after week to keep your subscribers satisfied. There are many benefits, however, other than financial gain. Helping others and developing friendships with subscribers is by far the most rewarding. I imagine Kirk can attest to this as well. p.s. to allancoleman. You will have to take my word for it. Having dealt with the Brinkers (Bob abd Bob Jr. personally), I can only assure you that I am not blowing smoke, although I wouldn't mind a good cigar right now.
