Internet Addiction - Fact or Fantasy?Read the article this discussion is about

» eurocrat_au - Being addicted to the Internet I think I am addicted to the Internet. I really like the interactions that are there, and my life would be boring without it (or at least I couldn't do anything against the boredom). But my addiction is centred on sites-if people didn't update their sites regularly, I wouldn't go! I try to control my addiction by using e-mail. But being on the Internet isn't my favourite thing.Adelaide La Blanche-Dupont -- posted by eurocrat_au » Stacysmoon - Another World My family first got this computer when I turned 18. I was in my senior year of high school, when the Internet came into our household. I found myself waking up early in the morning and returning when I got home from school. I often would stay on-line until midnight. My friends called me an Internet junkie, and I would laugh at them and explain just how wonderful the Internet was. These days, I check my mail at least once an hour when I am home, because it's an equivalent to getting snail mail. Everybody is looking for some positive information, a letter from a friend, a job offer. Since I started writing freelance, it's been even more exciting because of all the Internet has provided me. So...I think if someone has an addiction to the Internet so to speak, that's ok. I just have a few discrepancies: If it gets in the way of family, your health, and/or your duties to job and yourself, then too much Internet may cause harm. However as much time as I am on-line, I would just have to call myself a computer geek, not a computer addict.-- posted by Stacysmoon » Car - Re: Being addicted to the Internet In response to message posted by eurocrat_au:Thanks Adelaide for inputting your thoughts. I agree with you, I'm most impressed when websites are kept up-to-date... and it's not always easy as I know I slack on some of my sites from time to time. Why isn't the Internet one of your favorite things to do? Just curious if you'd like to share. -- posted by Car » Car - Re: Another World In response to message posted by Stacysmoon:Hey computer geek! =) Good points. I'm going to try to do an article in the near future on geekdom in the 21st century. If you'd like to be a part of that article, please let me know and I'll let you in on what I'm thinking of doing. Meanwhile, thanks for the input. Curious, how do you keep it from getting in the way of family, health, and other duties? Ever run into a conflict? -- posted by Car » Stacysmoon - Re: Re: Another World Well nowadays, I wait until the family is asleep to do my surfing. During the day I only check my e-mail. I'm not as bad as I was back in high school, but I find that everyone is happy. 1. They can use the phone during the day, 2. They can use the Internet during the day, and 3. Everyone knows not to bother me at night. At times it does get in the way of health because I could be getting more sleep, but thank God for coffee.I wanted to ask you a question about getting an image up on my welcome page. You know where the Suite101-Topic rectangle is on the upper right hand of the screen. How did you put that picture in there? I've been having a tough time, but I think it's neat the way you did that. You can write me e-mail if you would like about it: Stacysmoon@aol.com. Oh, btw...I would be more than happy to help out with Computer Geekdom. Just let me know when. -- posted by Stacysmoon » Car - Talk about irony... Talk about irony!I started this article and conversation two weeks ago and WHAM, that sunday my computer at home no longer talked to the Internet. Then I'm away for a week because of business and return to find that my computer still doesn't talk. I've now had to totally reinstall Windows, still not finished reinstalling all the software I had on it. And I had so many things I wanted to do online this week. I'm going crazy not being able to do it... talk about testing what I preach. I have written several articles on the subject, based on recent personal experience. I am linking one of them for you here and the other two are linked at the bottom of this one:All three articles will be featured in the upcoming Valentine's event to illustrate the counterfeit of love. -- posted by biogardener
