» jerrib - I've often thought of this I, too, spent hours writing letters, and was equally thrilled to get a response. My family relied on me as the "news bearer." Then I, like you, took to email. Now I think of writing letters, but I don't. This is easier. It's a real shame. I do occasionally sit down and write a letter, but not as much. I've been thinking about this lately, because getting a letter from somebody is so much more satisfying than email. Another internet-inspired society change. Sad. Quick is not always better. Wonder how many other folks feel the same way. Jerri -- posted by jerrib » biogardener - I see it differently I see the recent change from mail to email as a positive development. The Canadian post office is notoriously negligent when it comes to delivering mail even when it is registered. There simply is no sure way of knowing whether a letter will arrive at its destination or not. If an email gets lost, I simply resend it.With my many European friends who do not have a computer, I simply telephone, and that does not costs any more than a letter either. Even with my email friends I telephone when things get rough and I need someone to talk to. Just last week, I scanned some pictures which I had just finished painting and emailed them to a friend in California. She got to see them with exactly the same color as they really are. There is no way I could have done that without email. Sometimes, I upload the pictures and send the URL to my friends. There is no way I would entrust my real painting to the post office and risk losing them. As you know, I love to illustrate my articles, and in the same way, I used to illustrate all my letters with drawings and watercolor illustrations. With the recent irresponsible handling of mail by Canada Post, it would be foolish to entrust my labor of love to them. It isn't the Internet alone which has curbed my letter writing. It is the post office and their lack of care. -- posted by biogardener
