Good article, Car. I guess the moral of the story is that, when you interact with strangers, whether in person or online, you could run into some unsavory characters. The worst thing that has happened to me is spam from women offering things we don't want, if you get my drift. Yuck.

» Car - News in Conneticut, USA

I just heard this story from CT. A man who tried to lure a 13 year old girl to have sex with him over the Internet. I'm glad but scared at the thought that this could happen... and with the stas that Susan provided in her Child Abuse and Recovery topic... it's scary.

BTW, here's another link to a young girl's fight against an Internet Stalking.

Yes, this is the newest forum for predators. They can trick children and do every day on the Internet. Go to my Welcome Page and find the link for SOC-UM. On that site you will find lots of info on this. Also, Pandora's Box.

We had an incident in the neighboring county where a pedophile was doing this. He was going as far as bringing young girls into his multimillion $$$ mansion, plying them with gifts, drugs and booze, then using them for child pornography. He got caught and is now serving a life sentence thank God! The saddest part is the life sentence these girls will have now!

Parents need to talk to their kids about this problem. No matter how old they are, they should never have the computer in their room behind closed doors. When they are on their own, then they can do as they like, but the dangers are far too great to take a chance by letting them have total privacy when it comes to the Internet.
Even very level headed, mature kids can get in trouble by trusting the identity of these people and the messages they send. Better safe than sorry. The Internet is the perfect place for pedophiles to surf for lonely, desperate kids who need someone to talk to. We as parents and grandparents, must be vigilant when it comes to our children's safety.

Thanks again Car. smile
