» charcunning - Solid Foods Hi there, it's me, Charlene, the Toddlers Contributing Editor! I love your article! I do daycare for a 7 month old whose mom just started her on baby food and this article is so relevant! She was really hesitant about starting her daughter on the solid foods, but her daughter LOVES it!!!! She now is eating 2 jars of 1st foods for lunch plus rice cereal! It's so hard to let go of that "baby" stage when only mommy can do the feeding, but it's such an important part of a child's development and it really enables them to have a taste for all foods...even veggies! By the way, the photos are soooo great! Cute Kids! Are they yours?Char -- posted by charcunning » mykidzmom - thanks! :) Thanks, Charlene! My son was seven months old when he first started solid foods. It was hard for me to finally offer him solids, but he enjoyed solid food from the first bite and still loves them at 18 months old, so I think the time was right.-- posted by mykidzmom » mykidzmom - Two star rating? Also, what are your experiences? Someone gave this article a two star rating, which probably means they didn't care for it a whole lot. Please feel free to share your comments on the article! If there is anyway I can make it better, I'm all ears. :-)What is your experience with starting solid foods? Does anyone out there have an allergic baby? I am thinking about writing an article about that, so please let me know if anyone is interested. Be sure to rate the article if you feel like it; it would be much-appreciated. Thanks! -- posted by mykidzmom » apronstringsmom - I was wondering... Hi Jeri! It's me, Eden! I have a quick question for you. I was told that babies only needed mother's milk or formula for the first year of life, essentially, that no other nutrition was needed. What is the position of Peds now? I do believe the "allow" baby food, etc after six months, but purely for "practice" and should never replace breastmilk or formula. I am very interested in what you come up with!Eden and lil' Andy -- posted by apronstringsmom » rnblizzard96 - Re: Solid Foods I had a baby 9 weeks early in 7/2003 and he is just starting to eat solids, at 10 months old, as when we tried him before (many times) he spit it up. I was wondering if anyone could make some suggestions on some easy to digest first foods other than rice cereal to try on him. He is a very slow eater but seems to be very interested in soft solids...he still gags frequently on "baby snacks" (ie puffed fruit cereal snacks)...thanks in advance for your help...JEN-- posted by rnblizzard96 » maidenkatt - starting solid foods at 5 months was 7 weeks premature Just wondering if I am starting solids too soon- our daughter will be 5 months old this week and we have been giving her little tastes of banannas the past few weeks which she seems to love, I have mixed baby rice cereal and a couple slices of mashed bananna's with a little bit of formula and she has gobbled up about 2-3 tablespoons of this at dinner time the past few nights, after she swallows it she opens up her mouth wide for the next spoonful. I am thinking that since she was a preemie I should be waiting another month to even be giving her what I am giving her but she hasnt seemed to have any problems and likes it OK- Should I stop doing this or is it OK as long as she likes it and is swallowing it?? I was thinking that due to her premature birth I should probably be limiting her to small tastes for at least another month, what do you think? Currently she weighs 12 lbs (was 5 at birth) she has been holding her head up well for awhile too-- posted by maidenkatt
