What a thoughtful review!I enjoyed the update on the new work of some of my favorite Indian writers. If I may, I'd like to ask you a tangential question-how did you like R.Mistry's "A Fine Balance"? Some Indians I know thought it was too relentlessly negative about the culture, although they had to admit it was an accurate take on Emergency.I've noticed more Indian writers are avoiding the grittiness of Indian life less lately- even Divakaruni ( who says she writes for women & intelligent men) uses social problems underscoring her character's concerns as more than local color or backdrop.
