This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 Next » » saurabh_16 - Trek to Chandratal This is the first time I have visited this site. Interesting stuff. I had gone for the Chandratal trek with few of my freinds in July this year. Great experience. I am planning to something similar next year, either a trek or a biking trip to the Himalayas. Please me let me know if anything similar is happening.Saurabh -- posted by saurabh_16 » pradeep - trek to chandertal lake Dear Ashish,Your article on chandertal was very interesting. I wish to know if Batal could be reached by road. I wish to trek to chandertal, but have only 3-4 days to spare. Hence if Batal could be reached by road I will be able to do chandertal in 3-4 days. Keep up the good work of sharing your experiences.. Thanks and regards Pradeep -- posted by pradeep » AshishK - akaul@eicher.co.in Hi Saurabh,Sorry for the rather late reply. But I 've just got back from a long climbing trip in Sikkim ( Kangchenjunga region ) There will be a fabulous trek in West Sikkim in the Kangchenjunga region in April 2000. Let me know well in advance if you are interested. The group size will be between 10 to 15 people ( need to be physically fit ). -- posted by AshishK » AshishK - Hi Pradeep, Hi Pradeep,The Chandratal trek is best done in July / August. While you can drive to Batal on a jeepable track, how the road conditions are, is really determined by the severety of the previous winter snow fall. So you would acually know the situation at Manali only. Moreover, suddenly gaining such high altitude in too short a time is dangerous from the acclimatisation point of view. And so I would advise you against it. Meanwhile, the offer of the West Sikkim trek that I've made in these discussions to Saurabh is open to you and friends as well. Let me know and stay in touch. Bye. -- posted by AshishK » AshishK - Hi Pradeep, Hi Pradeep,The Chandratal trek is best done in July / August. I would also like to know if I can book the accomodation at the PWD rest house in advance. Hormuz -- posted by Hormuz » AshishK - Dear Hormuz, Dear Hormuz,From Manali, you go over the Rohtang pass and descend to Gramphho ( max half an hour from Rohtang ). From Gramphoo the trek begins. -- posted by AshishK » Hormuz - Re: Dear Hormuz, Hi ashish ,Last year for some reason we couldn't make it to chandratal. However this year a group of six are trying to go. I do however want to know if the river crossing is difficult after batal as we plan to go by road to batal and then trek to chandratal. We are leaving tommorrow i. e. 14th of august. If you can get in touch with me by then then I would really appreciate it.
