» SandraW_8 - Sandra Warfield For 13 years I worked as a Retrospective News Sandra WarfieldFor 13 years I worked as a Retrospective Newspaper Indexer, indexing local newspapers from the 1700's and 1800's for a library system. I am wondering how newspaper indexing differs from what I have read in the "What is Indexing" article and how retrospective newspaper indexing differs from the indexing of current day newspapers. Most of the concepts in the above mentioned article apply to retrospective newspaper indexing, but personal names are of the utmost importance since geneologists and historians use the index so much. The creativity mentioned in this article came into play in the newspapers by writing a parenthetical phrase which summed up the article. No headlines existed as we know them in those days. Anyone familiar with either kind of newspaper indexing? -- posted by SandraW_8 » Indexlady - Dawn Spencer Dawn SpencerCoordinator of the Tennessee Regional Group of the American Society of Indexers --------------- indexlady@aol.com tennwords@aol.com --------------- http://members.aol.com/indexlady/ http://members.aol.com/tennwords/home.ht... http://www.suite101.com/topics/page.cfm/... -- posted by Indexlady
