» Tricia_S - love this idea

Hi Suzanne,

I love this idea. It has so many possiblilities.

So often when I clean my kids' rooms, I find myself throwing away old books they have destroyed through overuse. Instead they could re-work favorite falling-apart books from younger days into something new, something to celebrate memories of reading together.

For myself, I think I would create an altered book of favorite poems. I'm sure I could find materials at garage sales.

Thanks for a great idea,
'tricia

Hi Suzanne, hmm, article! I especially like Tricia's idea of an altered book of favorite poems! I enjoyed the article, as always. Thank you. Renie

PS. By the way, Suzanne, are your the same Suzanne Hill that has an artile in the April/May issue of Missouri Life, in the Best of Missouri section? I saw the name, and became curious. I have an article in there, too!

Hi Renie,
Thanks for your note - I'm glad you liked the article. What a cool way to "illustrate" a book in your own unique way, right? I was really excited by this idea, and I'm starting a couple of these books of my own. I want to try a Round Robin next.

by the way, the Suzanne Hill you saw in the magazine is not me.

Thanks!

Hi Tricia,
I love your ideas! A book of favorite poems would be a great jumping-off point for an altered book. I was checking out books at a flea market this weekend, but didn't see anything appropriate. It's cool to be able to look at old books with new eyes now. I heard of someone who used to alter a book, make it beautiful, and sneak it into used book sales at libraries and such, fantasizing about where it might end up and whose lives it might brighten. Almost a "Random Act of Art."

Thanks for your message. Also, I wanted you to know i check out your writers ezine website and I always enjoy it.

Thanks for adding this to your signature so I could visit and read about this. I remember in the craft world people were into using books as decorated frames for a while. How interesting to use them for artistic expression. There ought to be lots of books at library sales ready for this purpose! Sounds wonderful.

Thanks for stopping in to read about the San Juans!
