What Does What I Read Illustrate About Me?Read the article this discussion is about
This archived discussion is "read only".
» Barbara Bell - Lots of food for thought! For a few minutes I thought about my own reading habits, and was forced to conclude with you that reading for pleasure is way down at the bottom of the list! This is the excuse I use to subscribe to a very few magazines which are my substitutes for good novels: Vanity Fair, for its "inside" looks at everything from politics to celebrities; Golf for Women, which is much more insightful on the sport than any of the so-called "men's" golf magazines; Martha Stewart Living, because I can always learn something new about caring for a home, and This Old House, because I own one and it always needs work. When, and if, I can find time to read the newspaper and these magazines, I feel I've done all I can. However, on my bedside table are the biography of John Adams (1/2 finished), and Waiting for Snow in Havana, a memoir of growing up in pre-Castro Cuba. I will probably have to wait until my next vacation to finish these! -- posted by Barbara Bell

Hi Barbara, -- posted by Suzanne Hill » jerrib - I find I have all sorts of interests, like you. When I want to just "veg" I usually pick up a romance. I'm also reading a political novel and am trying to understand what is going on with our country and the war. I guess what I'm currently reading is on a political and personal level because that's my interest right now.I love all sorts of books, and like you, like the arts and crafts. I'm glad I'm not reading for school and can enjoy what I pick up! I guess in my life I am pretty footloose and fancy-free for the most part, so my reading is for enjoyment more than anything. -- posted by jerrib
