It sickens me when a player such as Yashin who, by the way is NOT a super star, throws a tantrum because he can't get his own way. I have seen better players than he, put their hearts on the line game in and game out and get paid the league standard. I have noticed lately that it is not the talented players who get the huge contracts and extra perks. It is the player that whines the loudest and longest. Every one wants to see old time hockey make a come back. The first thing we need to do is get rid of all of the glitz and greed and let the true talent shine through when Sir Stanley's Cup is raised by the best group of players in the world. I propose a corollary to the point you made in the article about Yashin and his contract "difficulties". If a 3-year contract amounts to a 2-year contract because the last year is always used to manipulate management and hold out for a higher offer despite the contractual obligation, then how about a 1-year contract? 1-year contracts would create mayhem and anarchy in the league because no player would feel obliged to come to work and honour their commitment to the fans since they are already in the last year of their contract immediately as they sign!
