I Was Wrong. The OHL is too Violent.Read the article this discussion is about

» Jael - It's not just the OHL (particularly the violence)... Hockey is a violent game. Isn't that a given? ;)Last I heard, they were discussing banning Kugel for life from the OHL, the WHL, the anything-HL... It's not just the OHL that gets violent or weird. Ever watched a WHL game? Take the Blazers VS. the Americans. Throw them together on the ice for three-and-a-half hours. The result? One concussion, two game misconducts, four players kicked out of the game, and a broken nose for the guy who was named MVP at the end of the game. Oh, and let's not forget the jerk in the bleachers four seats down from me yelling obscenities at the ref...a short time later, a Blazer kicked out of that game for fighting (I believe he received one of the game misconducts) is drafted to the NHL. They want an enforcer on their team -- the guy is 6'4, and apparently built like a Mac truck. Hockey has changed. When our fathers (well, my fathers) played, it was for fun. Now they're playing Old Timer's and watching 15 and 16-yr-old kids beat the life out of each other. I was watching a Peewee AAA Major team game not long ago where this huge 13-yr-old went driving down the ice at a fairly small 12-yr-old on the other team. No penalty for the older player, but the younger one is out right now because he can't even walk straight. Recently I heard something about a controversy on the west coast with two teams in the minor league so violent the parents of some of the kids actually took them off the team. Grown men are in the bleachers yelling, "Take him out! Slash him! Hit him!" Fun, huh? -- posted by Jael
