» dayan - Anthuriums

Hi Norine:

My hubby bought me an red anthurium for Valentines and it is doing just fine so far. I haven't been able to figure out what knind it is though. Most anthuriums are expensive becuase they are slow growers and take years to mature enough to flower. Mine seems to be a miniature (which I can't find any reference to), the leaves are almost normal size but the flowers are less than and inch. I know they aren't the true flowers (same family as spathiphyllum) so initially I thought maybe they continued to grow. That doesn't seem to be the case either. Have you ever heard of a dwarf anthurium?

» NorineW - Hi Karyn,

Hi Karyn,
I must admit you almost had me stumped. I had never heard of a dwarf anthurium either. However, I did a web search and found several references. Unforunately a lot of them were no longer available or I couldn't get into the server address. That is so aggravating. So, I ended up with just one reference. It may not be what you're looking for and may not even be "your" plant, but check it out. It's at:

If it's not there, go down the left column and click on tropical plants. Let me know if this is what you were looking for. If not, I'll see what else I can come up with.

Thanks for the help, I was losing my mind. The picture isn't quite right but it is probably replicated from the standard. The flowers on mine have the waxy same appearance but the shape is more like a peace lily, sort of a hooded spathe. I will have to keep an eye out for the purple variety.

Thanks again.
