Dracenas or Corn Plants
This archived discussion is "read only". » MommaMouse - Propogation I have a Dracena, that was given to me about 3 years ago, Now it is about to grow through the ceiling. All my gardening books say that you can propogate them by taking cuttings, but none tell any further than that. It is doing well, except that the stem has a definate bend in it, the taller it grows. Does anyone know in detail, how to go about dividing this one stem Corn Plant? I do not want it to die due to a mistake in surgery, so would appreciate any help that any of you can give me. It has doubled in size, in only 3 years.I would love to save the original plant if possible, without having to cut a hole in the ceiling, and perhaps get some smaller plants from it. Unfortunately, it's a long one to explain, so\, instead, I'll direct you to a site that explains it in great detail. Try:http://ctr.uvm.edu/ctr/oh/oh05.htm Maybe you can manage to take a cutting from the very top of the plant. I'm afraid, barring the hole in the roof you mentioned, that's the best advice for saving your plant. The wound will heal, and eventually, it will blend in with the rest of the plant. -- posted by NorineW » lavipo - Dracena I have a Dracena but I don't know exactly its type. Can you help me in finding what type of Dracena I have? It has dark green with red lines on the margines narrow leaves shaped like lance. I know nothing about this plant and in Romania it is quite rare.I put it near the window in order to have enough light but this location is situated near the TV set. Is that a problem? How often does it need water and how much? These days I have noticed that some leaves are whitetring up beginning with the top. They seem like burned, but only on the top. The soil I used for the plant is peat.Thank you, Lavinia -- posted by lavipo Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
