» rytrwanab - Dracena or Daemomorops(?) Draco

I am a practicing herbalist and I am having a most difficult time finding a particular plant. It is called Dragon's Blood or Dragon Palm or Dragon Tree - the botanical name is listed above. I understand they require a warm climate, but all my research also indicates that they can be successfully grown indoors. I have searched NUMEROUS gardening catalogs and web sites - but cannot locate a source for this plant. Would also be interested in acquiring a Dracena(she dragon). Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

» nicknack - corn plant

Hi folks..I am completely ignorant to the world of houseplants..My first victim is a Corn Plant (i think)..It's this stalky looking thing with two single green flowers growing out of it's top..It kinda looks like bamboo..I bought it as an accessory to my water/rock garden i have on my desk at work...Anyway, does anybody know anything about how to keep this thing alive? One of the two has turned yellow (e.g. no more green)...How much water should I have in this thing (how hight up the stalk should the water go?) Do I need to put fertilizer in the water?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

» Classic38 - Dracaena

I have 2 Dracaena plants in the same pot. One plant is larger than the other. The smaller of the two plants died and each time I replace it with another plant of the same size it dies also. I have made 3 replacements so far; each have died. However, the larger plant is doing just fine. Can someone explain this?

i have had my corn plant for over 24 years. i have started at least 12-14 other plants from the original. i simply broke off the branch that is growing in a direction i did not want and soaked it overnight in a heavy solution of liquified seaweed. the next day i planted it in organic potting soil in a pot w/good drainage and sat in diffuse or indirect sunlight for approximately 1 month... then outside in full morning sun for a month or two...then straight back into full sun. I have never had a failure....and the mama plant is still healthy after all these yrs. hope this helps.

oh by the way - below where i broke the 'starter' off from the original, with in weeks it began to spring a new set of leaves...helping to 'right' the 'lean' they develop w/age.
good luck

Hi Classic. I would need more information on this. How are you transporting the new plants home - maybe they are being traumatized (it doesn't take much , esp in summer). And what is the condition of the soil? Overburned by fertilizer, or tapped out and salty? Is the soil too wet or too dry? New plants don't handle change very well, as opposed to your established plant, which can better handle the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. smile

In response to Mike Preble & LizS35 I have been looking for the same answer to the same question. I did make a call to a local nursery and was told that these little balls of seeds can be planted and grow a new corn plant. But I am not sure of, exactly how to go about doing it. As LizS35 said, did I miss an answer to the original message. I am also new to Suite 101.com
If anyone has an answer I would love to know it. Thanks
