» operastar - My Houseplant I have acquired a plant that looks like a rope . The leaves are thick the consistency of green pepper. It grows like a rope that looks like twisted vine. It has several ropes(vines). Can anyone identify this plant and also give me care instructions for same...It seems to be dying. I would like to keep it alive. I rather am in love with it. Thanks -- posted by operastar » uhuru - Re: My Houseplant In response toThat sounds like a HOYA 'Rope" (Hoya Carmosa). That is one of my favorite plants. I acquired my first one about3years ago and fell in love with it too. It is so unusual, I just love the feel of it and the way it grows and hangs. It reminds me of a little girl with long braids. It is very cute, demure and has its own sweet personality. I have them in small pots and large all over my home and office. I have given pieces of it away, but it is very tempermental and does not like just anyone. They like rays of sunlight streaming in on them and do well under fluorescent light. I have big window in my bathroom and I have them around my garden tub. We very seldom take a bath in it. I have few in small pots in the windowsill. They do not like a lot of water. The bigger the pot,the less I water of course. I have put a few out on my screened porch now that it is warm and the night temperatures are 60 and above. I hope this has helped you. Continue togive it TLC. -- posted by uhuru » plantmom1 - Re: My Houseplant In response to My Houseplant posted by operastar:operastarr, sounds like a plant that my mom had. she called it a wax plant. the vine was rearoapypy and haverryrfragrentnt blossoms in a cluster. they were white with pink centers and looked like wax. let me know if this sounds like your plant. -- posted by plantmom1 » biogardener - Help To verify whether it is a hoya, go to http://google.com, type in "hoya rope" and click on "Images."If it is a hoya and you want it to bloom, it is important to leave it in one place. It does not like to be moved. After being moved, it may take years for it to bloom again. The best place we use to have was in an east window with it vining all around the window. It bloomed twice every year until we had to move. It is easy to start new plants from cuttings which root easily. I like to catch the heavy nectar with my fingertips. It is thick like honey and has a lovely fragrant taste. -- posted by biogardener » purr123 - need plant identification This house plant has thick slender leaves and is easily rooted in water. The leaves are splotchedon the top side dark green on light green. On the under side they are maroon on tan. It has and bloom (brown) that is similar to a honeysuckle flower. It is an attractive plant but one I have never seen before. -- posted by purr123 » lazeechic - Re: need plant identification In response to need plant identification posted by purr123:I have a plant that sounds exactly like that. It has little flowers that sit in a boat shape. The elderly lady that gave it to me, called it a Moses in theBullrushess. I don't know the correct name for it. -- posted by lazeechic » afinenettle - Need houseplant ID I have a plant that looks fernlike. However, seems to have no spores at the moment. It is Very Very wavy with many stems from the base all having one green leaf matter per stem that is undifferentiated along the stem. It twists and turns to a pointed tip.Any ideas? -- posted by afinenettle » NCDave - Need Plant Identification Can anyone identify the plant in this picture?http://www.steelecreekresidents.org/imag... A former employee left it in our office. It's about 21 inches high. It recently bloomed, but it doesn't bloom often--less than once a year. We have no idea what it is/ -- posted by NCDave
