» Joy Butler - Kids and Horses

I grew up around all kinds of animals, including horses, and was never intimidated by the largest of them but I can see where kids who are not used to big animals might be frightened of horses. I would think that kids who read books about horses might lose some of their fear as interest and respect would replace it.

Thanks for your interesting articles each month.

I grew up on the farm and was used to being around horses, as well as other animals. None of them ever frightened me. I was the only one that old Oscar the bull would let into his stall without raising a fuss. He'd just look at me and stand quietly.

My grandsons are city dwellers, yet when the older one went to horse camp, he loved it. He rode a horse while there and learned parts of the horse and many other facts. He didn't seem to be intimidated by them. However, I can see why some children would be.
