I know this won't help you but...thank you for making me feel better about the price of the 12 year old, registered gelding I am in the process of purchasing. I had complete sticker shock too when I realized that I was going to have to pay $1,500.00 for him. Now, after reading your e-mail and the responses to it, I am not feeling so bad.

I live in Minnesota and am getting my new gelding from Wisconsin. What I have been finding is that prices for a good, older, all-around, registered trail horse in this area are running between $1,200.00 to $3,500.00. That's definitely a lot more than I paid for my first horse back in the mid 80s ($250.00).

Good luck with finding a horse in your price range and keep looking. They are out there.
