Hi Patricia, I think it's very important that helmets are emphasized for riders, these days. I remember in the seventies, when my daughter and I went riding often, no one ever wore helmets. These days, when her daughter goes horseback riding, she, and her mother, wear helmets. I thought you might enjoy the picture of my oldest granddaughter on a horse with her helmet. I also encourage parents (and riders of all ages)to evaluate a riding facility by whether or not they require helmets. If they are a safe, professional facility, they will require helmets (especially for riders under 18)---No exceptions.
