1.Man o' War-Just because you never saw him race doesn't mean he wasn't the best. He truly deserves his official title of Horse of the Century and is still pulling away.As for Seabiscuit he was plucky but I'm not at all happy with the movie. They lied about War Admiral, I mean god!18 hands??Try 15.2.
Other than that it was a good movie but influenced the little guy can win thing too much. Perhaps they should have emphasized that both horses were small and thus bring across the same message.

In response to message posted by Manowarfan:So true about the original Big Red, Man o' War!
He is the best and always will be.
I'm probably gonna get hurt for this, but...
If him and Secretariat ever met, Man o' War would win. Sorry all who feel differently!
Yeah, Secretariat won the Belmont by 31 lengths, but Man o' War won the Lawrence Realization by 100 lenths. I don't think that will ever be equaled.

In response to top ten horses posted by horse_luver49:"...and was able to defeat War Admiral, who was huge!"
Actually, War Admiral wasn't very big at all. In fact, he was about the same size as Seabiscuit. In the movie they increased his size for dramatization. After all, wouldn't it be far more interesting to watch a 15 hh longshot beat a champion that was nearly 18 hh rather than one his own size?
Seabiscuit was a great racer, but I personally feel that he lacks the spirit and competitive nature that make the thoroughbred breed so unique. He was rather lazy and unwilling to race the majority of his career, while War Admiral was known to drag his groomers to the starting gate in anticipation when he heard the racing bells (or so I read in one book).
And you shouldn't forget Alydar as being a great racehorse. Most people tend to forget that he placed second to Affirmed in every Triple Crown race, one by a length, another by a head, and the last by a nose. While he still lost, it was by a very small margin and was never deterred.
Man O'War beats them all, though!

In response to Re: top ten horses posted by WittyRemark27:Alydar was greater in the stud shed -- his siblings did very, very well. So much better that he has the second biggest memorial in Calumet's cemetery of champions in Lexington, Ky. The only larger tribute was Bull Lee's statue -- he sired Triple Crown champions Whirlaway and Citation, plus other Kentucky Derby winners.
