Have you tried them?

I have vol. 1 and 2, and whilst I thought the original Blair Witch movie was a great psychological thriller, it wasn't really a "horror" movie to me per se. Did frighten me a bit in the scenes where the unknown entities are banging on their tent, etc. But it was more a mind trip to me than an obvious horror movie.

Anyway, the video games are done in the Nocturne engine, Nocturne being a deliciously frightening horror video game (that is a pig to get running on most PCs, unfortunately). I'm in the midst of the 1st volume "Rustin Parr" one and I have to say, it's scaring me more than the movie did! Totally has me jumping in my chair.

By the by, I didn't see the 2nd Blair Witch movie, it looked atrocious :P

This might be hard to believe, but I play very few video games smile Shameful! And it isn't for lack of interest. I always seem to have a computer which is a few years behind, so I'm usually just getting to the games other people are already bored with ... for instance, I haven't finished Baldur's Gate yet. Heck, most of the time when I play anything on the computer, it's Colonization or the old Sierra text-interface games -- I imagine I'll be getting to the Sims in 2008 or so ;)

So that's a no, although the graphics looked great. I saw some screenshots in ... Wicked, I think, the Starlog-like horror magazine.

Blair Witch 2 was actually not that bad. Well, let me amend that: it was cheesy horror, but as cheesy horror it wasn't bad, and it had a few clever moments and a few creepy moments (I think you're right, too, that the first one was more creepy than outright scary)

Bill,

I know what you mean--in 12/00 I "broke down" and bought a new PC with a processor that is still fast by industry standards, plus a blazing CD Rom, 3d sound/graphics, etc. All the works for gaming. It's my "gaming PC" though I use it for other things, it is primarily the result of my adoration of video games.

The graphics are definitely creepy in these games...but I do agree with one review I read that said the Blair Witch series of video games has an "identity crisis." It's based on the Nocturne engine and actually features tons of Nocturne characters and NPCs! SO as a result it's hard for me to determine if I'm playing a Blair Witch game or Nocturne 2 *g*

I'd recommend it to any of your visitors who are fans of horror video games, though.

Oh, and I never did finish Baldur's Gate. The story was just a tad too slow for my tastes, though I found the gameplay very enjoyable, I lost patience after a while. I've heard Icewind Dale is *well* worth its outrageous price, though, and though in the Baldur's Gate series, is superior to the original BG.
