» ktepi - Favorite Books and Movies?
I'm planning a number of columns -- several months' worth, scattered around -- about adapting novels and movies to roleplaying games. Everything from lists of "inspirational" material to a more fleshed-out setting and suggested system for, say, Stephen King's The Talisman (coming soon as a miniseries to a television near you).So what're everyone's favorite horror movies and novels? (Or short stories, for that matter). Particularly, which ones would you like to see in gameable form?

In response to message posted by ktepi:I've read a few King's but always preferred Straub (the other author of The Talisman, how could you not cite him?) for that end of the genre. My favourite writer is Christopher Fowler, especially Roofworld and Rune. I adapted the Roofworld plot for a Deadlands game a few years back...
Must not forget the first horror I ever read - Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes.

Straub! Geez, I can't believe I didn't credit him with Talisman. Consider me scolded -- he's way up on my list of "horror books everyone should read," which will be in an article soon. His Blue Rose trilogy, in particular, is some of my favorite stuff. Same goes for SWTWC.Fowler, though, I haven't read -- what sort of horror does he write?

I like the classic horror...Bram Stoker's Dracula and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. This comes out when I run a game since I lean towards classical monstors and foes.
The more recent movies that I have enjoyed are John Carpenter's Vampires and What Lies Beneath. There are some others but for some reason they won't come to mind. I guess they weren't that great after all, LOL!
