» JonathanLB - Mediocre Reviews
Hey, sorry I just continued the string of giving movies a mediocre review, hehe. I am actually a high-rating critic usually, if I use a 100 point scale, I will almost never give a Hollywood production below a 75 (which is average, a C).I usually give most good movies an 85 or more, which is fair, they are high budget, well made movies that deserve good reviews.
I have yet to give a Hong Kong action movie a bad review, although there really are a *lot* of mediocre movies. Some of them are enjoyable because there is one really awesome fighting scene, some are just mediocre all around. Then there are the masterpieces and the really good movies. Jackie Chan alone has more than ten movies that are just absolutely awesome.
Right now, I am reviewing movies that I had not previously seen, that way I can expand my horizons a bit. That is why you won't see a review of Rumble in the Bronx anytime soon, nor Jackie Chan's First Strike (one of my personal favorites with the best action scene around, hehe).
I think it is good to see what movies I consider mediore or just above average, that way everyone can look at the movies I give great reviews too and realize that not just any movie gets a great review. The movie truly has to be something special. I hope everyone bothers to rent The Tai-Chi Master sometime, that really is a good movie.
I bet a lot of American moviegoers would love Hong Kong action, but just have never been exposed to it. I was the same way, my first movie of Jackie Chan's was Rush Hour, which is not one of his best action movies, but is easily one of his more enjoyable productions. I love that movie, very funny, enjoyable, well made, when there is fighting, it's top notch. Nevertheless, that started me into this whole genre, which I now consider easily my favorite genre.
I love Sci-Fi movies, but there are not enough good ones, when they are good, they are really really good, when they are bad, they are just plain corny...
