» ckeeta - Homeless and solutions While I agree that the homeless need warm clothing, and a warm dry place to sleep. I wonder if giving them things, without requiring some work in return is actually the answer.I think more work needs to be done in combating the causes of homelessness. Not with handouts, but with jobs, and affordable housing in quantities sufficient to employ and house the homeless population. -- posted by ckeeta » Beawriter - Homeless and solutions The Bible tells us if we have two coats and our brother has none, to give him one of ours. It doesn't say put him to work first. I realize the problem of the homeless is multifaceted but I think first we have to see the welfare of those who are homeless. Offering them a warm sleeping bag made by loving hands is certainly a wonderful charity. However, this group does even more. They invite the homeless in for a meal and they also offer counseling. The truth is not all homeless people want to have a home. Another truth is that NOT all homeless are not working.I know there are homeless people who fall into the category of the working poor. They can't afford the cost of an apartment, electricity and heat. These people actually pay a portion of their salary to the shelter in order to stay there during the winter months. In the milder weather they might take up residence at a camp ground. Let's not judge others, lest we be judged. -- posted by Beawriter » MaryCoxBilz - Homeless Bea, plese keep writing on the homeless. He is mentally ill. We have not seen him in 17 years but we know he is there. His mom tells me he calls her from time to time but won't give him our number. says it won't be good for my son. But it breaks his heart not knowing if dad is ok or not. so i say make as many as possible maybe Bill will get one some day or already has.
