I've written for publication since 1987 & have had a Taylor book in the works for a few years. Your article touches on much of what went on in the unusual marriage between this couple. There were many underlying currents: her love of alcohol, jealousy over Taylor's aviation interests, her overall obsession w/him -- it was very true that she was more of a mother figure than a wife in many respects. She apparently attempted suicide at one point, though that was covered up, when Taylor 1st considered leaving her. He said later that he didn't leave for some time because he was afraid of what she might do to herself.The couple did, however, have a mutual interest in politics. This is part of the basis upon which Taylor's involvment in the HUAC mtgs began. It is my contention that he was being groomed by Ronald Reagan to follow in his actor-to-politician footsteps. He died before he could realize that. A book based completely on the Stanwyck/Taylor relationship would be quite a read. Hmmmmm. . . . I've done extensive interviews w/Taylor's children from his 2nd marriage to Ursula Theiss, & many family members & friends, as well as having been given access to letters & other personal artifacts.
