» Nemenchine - I prefer CITYSTOP....

Hi all!

Normally I do not go by foot in a big cities while hitching. I use my thumb, a table "2 km" or "5 km".

Simply if I go to a long trip, rollers will be an additional weight for me and I would decide to leave it somewhere :-).

Almost in every city it is possible to hitch through. Especially if you have a plan of the city. If you haven't, simply follow direction road signs and ask local people (I prefer taxi drivers).

I remember when we have started The 2nd selection stage for World Hitch-hiking Trophy, we should cross all Vilnius in pairs (8 pairs). Almost all pairs did it in a half of hour! I should mention, that most of participants were not from Lithuania and they managed to cross our city in the same time like we (local hitchers) did...

» The_Thumb - I wonder if that's possible through large western cities? proba

I wonder if that's possible through large western cities? probably. I think it'S a cool idea Vladas. Most of us westerners never really think to do it. Berlin, Paris, London, all a bit difficult maybe to hitch through, but with a sign like that it might work well!

Have you tried this through any western cities?

But anyhow, I wasn't using skates to get through cities so much as around them. I love the mobility, love to move, and suddenly don'T need busses and such. Usually I'm staying a few days in a town visiting friends and it's a great way for me to see the town.

But you're most definitley right, the weight is a pain. I'm considering a trip soon to England, and I may just take skates and sandals. No shoes. The Hypnos I mentioned in the article are so good because the wheel unclip and you have a walking shoe. Albeit a stiff, imperfect shoe, not great for long treks, but fine for so, so, walking, and in the summer sandals are great.

I know Hamish does summer hitches to Rainbow and back (maybe two months travel) with only sandals.
