In your excellent article, you state that John Quincy Adams was responsible for a list of projects. John Quincy Adams certainly advocated a far-sighted program that included a national university, an observatory staffed by a full-time astronomer, and a system of canalas and roads. He also favored a system of weather stations and various scientific explorations. But he did not succeed in getting any of these (except for an extension of the Cumberland Road and part of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal).

After the "corrupt bargain" the Democrats blocked any initiative sponsored by theh Adams Administration in order to discredit it, and President Adams, in what was essentially a four-year campaign for the 1828 election. John Quincy Adams left the White House frustrated, and feeling unsuccessful as President because he accomplished so little.

Another interesting point. His career actually began at the age of 14, when he served as the private secretary to the U.S. Minister to
Russia.
