Thanks for the welcome, Paym! I have studied various arts over the last 25 years. I spent a few months, separated by deployments, studying Shotokan in Charleston, SC. Interestingly enough, I learned one kata. Almost twenty years later, I learned the same kata in another style, with a different name, and only connected the two after doing it for several months!

My Aikido training is limited to a couple months with a practitioner while attending an unrelated course, but one of the 5th Dans in my current dojo has studied extensively and shares holds and techniques on a regular basis. (Thanks, Mr. Hall!)

Great topic and article. I am looking forward to reading more. I have studied Kung Fu now for 18 years since I was 40 years old. Changed my life for the better.

» Paym Bergson - what do the characters stand for??

Hey Mark,
It's been awhile since I've been in a dojo, so my character recognition is gone - what do the characters mean in your signature?
Thx
Paym

In response to message posted by paymb26:

I couldn't have asked for a better set-up! They will become the topic of my first contest! I've just got to figure out what the prize will be and I want to get a following.

So, figuring out what they mean is one thing, but there is another part to it. Stay Tuned!

» Liatris - Hello

Hello,

I just stumbled into your article here. My son has been in karate for almost 12 years now. He started at age 6 and is about to turn 18. I would highly recommend the martial arts to everybody. He earned a second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do/Choi Kwan Do and after moving out of state he took up Chun Kuk Do/Chuck Norris Karate...He has earned a 3rd degree in this style......we love it! Well, I love watching him. He's a great kid too and I owe it partly to the discipline he learned from the martial arts.

That's neat Susan! I started in Tang Soo Do at a Chuck Norris Karate school in Virgina Beach. My first dojo! That was a lot of years ago! I wish I had been able to stay on the journey, but military obligations and family sidetracked me many times! I have a daughter who is active in it and I hope she stays with it.
