This article pretty much sum sup the testing as it was & now is in the MA's.

For us older MA's it brings back memories of being promoted not in ceremony but just by the Sensei telling us to comeback next time iwth a belt of either brown or black depending upon the ranking level. Much simpler then...no fees, no test-stress...just hard work & the instructor's evaluation.

Yeah, I'm struggling with the Shodan test. Even though mine is relatively straightforward compared to many. I will have to do three kata in a row, 7 kumite (one/two/thre + step drills) with partner and about 6 bunkai. I have been stressing out over it, but figure it will happen sometime in the next year.
