» Car - Great article! Great 2 part article there Kelly. It's amazing what that group did and faced. This is probably a bias view, but I'm surprised to have seen so many rebellious youth under Hitler. There's that special on HBO, Rescuers, then the movie about kids who listened to music... Swinger?, then classics like Sound of Music, though that was Austria wasn't it? and Anne Frank.-- posted by Car » biogardener - Hopeless undertaking Fighting the tyrant from within was bound to end in failure. Even the well organized political endeavor against Hitler failed, because his faithfuls were well prepared for such an endeavor. A little help from the outside, though, could have turned the endeavor into success, but what did the Allies do to the man who risked his life to ask for their help? Instead of joining the Germans in getting rid of Hitler, the imprisoned Hess when he parachuted into Britain. He was the last war criminal survivor in the Spandau prison. They kept that prison open for years just for the one man, even though he had terminal cancer.Germans look to that desperate try as the only peace endeavor which could possibly have succeeded. They also feel that the Allieds did not want German help in stopping Hitler but preferred to fight it out alone. I don't know what went on in the minds of the governments in power in those days, but I have my doubts as to how sincere any of their peace efforts were. To polititians, vengeance is probably sweeter than peace. -- posted by biogardener
