you've written about Sacajawea, Mary, but I don't remember reading about where her gravesite is. Is Wind River Reservation by Yellowstone? We stayed at a Wind River Ranch years ago just outside Yellowstone.

Jerri,

The Reservation is in the Dakotas. It is the place where Sacajawea was born. Interesting that you stayed at Wind River Ranch.

Sacajawea is one of my heroines and I enjoy writing about her life. I wanted to introduce her to the kids. Life back then was so much different than today. I can't imagine our kids coping with that kind of life.

Take care, Jerri and thanks so much for opening the discussion on this article. Hope all is well with you.

Hi Mary,

I can see why Sacajawea is one of your heroines. She was a strong and determined woman. I enjoyed your article very much!

Mary, this is a great introduction to Native American culture for kids. I can't get over the amount of patience and strength that this woman had in the midst of such unfair and trying circumstances. Yet, she made the best of it, and lived a pretty exciting life. The Cherokee Indian in me likes to hear stories such as this one. Thanks for sharing an important part of our culture with the children.

Tina,

Yes, Sacajawea is one of my heroines and I wanted to kids to learn a little about her. Her life was very interesting. Can you imagine a girl of that age traipsing across the wilderness and never complaining. I think those days are over. smile

Thanks for dropping by. I always appreciate your support.

Dan,

I have a great interest in Native culture and especially in Native women. We don't hear much about them, as it was a man's world back then.

I'm glad you enjoyed the article. Thanks for dropping by. I haven't been online much and have some catching up to do.
