I've often said that Kids' Korner is not only for the young, but the young at heart. That includes many of the people who write for the Suite.
Brandon indeed has his "quirks." He can't stand to wear certain fabrics, can't eat certain foods because they feel like he has sand in his mouth and he has issues with his peers. But.. he has come a long way in the last year. He's matured immensely. That is a very positive thing and I've mentioned it to him.
Kids on the autistic scale need lots of praise and encouragment. Odd that you should mention Helen Keller. I bought Brandon a book on this great lady last year. After he read it he said, "Grandma, if she could do all that, then I can do anything."
Sometimes he forgets that he can do "anything," and belittles himself. I'm quick to always step in and point out the things he is good in. He had a poem accepted last fall by Young Writer's of Canada for publication in an anthology. He is quite proud that he will be a published poet at age 9.
He then asked me when I was first published. When I told him 40, he said,"Does that mean I'm better than you." I told him yes, it did mean that and he was happy as a big playing in a mud hole. ![]()
Wendell, I appreciate you taking time to surf around Kids' Korner. The kids need encouragement and you are a very positive influence. I learn a lot from both my grandsons and the kids here everyday.
