» Cat1Person - Hello!

Very interesting and well-researched. Makes me glad I detest rye. As a teen, however, I did go on two "trips". The second was a classic "Bad" trip and created in me a much needed aversion to all illegal drugs.
I look forward to reading more of your articles!

» swest - Thanks!

Thanks much for your comments, and they are doubly special since you are a writer as well. I'm also always glad to hear about someone who is staying away from drugs. Stuff like ergot seems detestable to us but when you think about it, people are deliberably ingesting chemicals just like it for recreation every day. Doesn't make sense to me. Life is too short to risk complicating it with more problems.

May you be blessed with success in your plans!

» Georgene A. Bramlage - Neat Article!

In response to message posted by swest:

This was indeed a neat article. However, I don't believe we have too much to wworry about with using modern rye flour or eating commercial rye bread.

This is in the category of Did you know? Ergot derivded from Claviceps purpurea is sometimes used in childbrith to stimulate the uterus, counteract postpartum bleeding, treat migraines (maybe not so much any more)and other vascular problems. It is being investigated for use in dementia-type diseases.

There are lots of bits and pieces of information on ergot derivatives out on the internet, some good...others hooey, so I haven't indicated any.

Thanks, Georgene! The characteristics of Ergot are a confirmation to me that all things were created for good. Used the wrong way and they are harmful, but the good is in there waiting to be harnessed. The cure for cancer is out there somewhere.

Thanks for posting!

Thanks for posting, Jerri! I, too, learned something new here. Before my daughter came home from college and told me about this, I had never heard of such a thing. They were discussing this in a class she was taking and she knew it was the kind of thing I like to research.

Thanks for stopping by!
