You are so right. I'm a long time reader of historical fiction and I've written several historical novels.
I've always done exhaustive research to ensure my facts were right. Somebody, somewhere, will know if you've goofed!

Even though many publishers don't promote their books as historical fiction, they are definitely out there. I review historical novels for The Historical Novel Society, which is based in London. I'm a US reviewer and each issue of Historical Novel Reviews is filled with historical fiction that covers a wide range of time periods.
