» Red - 'Tis The Season Megan, you must be in a terrible tizzy trying to get all of that sewing done.I love to go to re-enactments. My first Civil War re-enactment was the Battle of Manassas. It was on a hot day in July and we almost cooked. The only thing that saved us was the light breeze. I felt sorry for those men in their wool uniforms and the ladies in their hoop skirts and layers of petticoats. It was very real. I will be visiting Westfield Pioneer Village again this year to watch another re-enactment. Thanks for the great article and good luck on getting your kit together. -- posted by Red » madilayn - Re: 'Tis The Season In response to message posted by Red:It was even worse last night - I went to put the bones in my corset and they were all too long! Oh well, it just means cutting a bit off. As for the heat - full skirts have a lovely effect as the breeze comes under the bottom of the skirt, and gets trapped in it. Your legs are beautifully cool, and that helps with the rest of you. I agree about the men - they always look as if they are being slowly boiled......... -- posted by madilayn » Red - Re: Re: 'Tis The Season In response to message posted by madilayn:Meagan, it is nice to know that the breeze gets trapped under the long skirts. I did have a 1800's era dress but that was many years ago for Canada's Centennial Year (1967). I can't remember it being that hot though. At least you keep cool evern if the men do cook. Take care my friend and have a great weekend. If you have a chance drop by my topic and take a cyber tour of an African Safari. -- posted by Red » Dubh_Sidhe - Re: Re: Re: 'Tis The Season In response to message posted by Red:Hey, Mary! It is I, Dubh. Fancy finding you here. But, then why not? It is a perfect hang-out for "us-uns". Megan, this is Dubh from Folklore and I rotate through the centuries, having several favorite personas--Eleanor of Aquitaine, Catherine of Sienna, Eleanor of Castile, Philippa of Hainault--oh, I could go on and on. I am a Plantagenet devotee. Love your topic and articles... -- posted by Dubh_Sidhe » madilayn - Re: Re: Re: Re: 'Tis The Season In response to message posted by Dubh_Sidhe:Hi Dubh Great to see you here - and I must admit to also being a Plantagenet nut! I'll join you, though in my admiration of Eleanor of Aquitaine. She and Bess of Hardwick are probably my two fave women in history -- posted by madilayn » Dubh_Sidhe - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 'Tis The Season In response to message posted by madilayn:Oh, crunchings and munchings! I am glad to find another Plantagenet nut with whom I can nibble! -- posted by Dubh_Sidhe
