» Veesuite - Tomatos Hi Audrey,When I was little, we called them maters. One of those southern things. Anyway, thanks for the information. I love a good tomato sliced with just a little salt/pepper or I eat them like an apple. The store bought varieties are nearly tasteless but we have a local type, Ruskin tomatos, grown in that area of Florida. They're huge, meaty and full of flavor. I knew tomatos were very good for our health but had no idea they were helpful in so many ways so the additional information is much appreciated. Thanks again! -- posted by Veesuite » Treeman - Audrey, your Boston story caught my fancy, for a a young elemena Audrey, your Boston story caught my fancy, for a a young elemenatary student I had heard a very similar version that was alledged to have occured on the courthouse steps in Salem, New Jersety in the pre-revolutionary period. I believe the principal was alledged to have been a kin of John Hancock of Declaration of Independence fame. In those days Salem was a small Quaker town and I think ole John's roudiness in supporting armed revolution was some what counter to the prevailing culture. So it wouldn't surprise me that his kinfolk carried the same cantankerous gene.At any rate sir tomato used to be King in Salem County and surrounding environs untill the can houses all closed and moved to the left coast in the 70's. Ahhhh, there's nothing like a Jersey Tomato! -- posted by Treeman
