» Carol Wallace - Growing in the wild I have to laugh, because I have one gentian and it thrives - but it is planted in an area of my too-large garden that gets almost no attention once the bog display of roses is finished in late June. SO it is nearly in the wild. I had planned to move it so it would show off better - but after reading this I may leave it.I only wish I had one in that "gentian blue" - which I think is one of the most gorgeous blues imaginable. Mine is a sort of blue-gray - a good neutral in the garden, I guess - but not the blue I had hoped it would be. I love that about the picked gentian dying of home-sickness. I suspect that could be said about many flowers - what a nice way to explain it to a child who can't otherwise understand that some plants should be left alone. -- posted by Carol Wallace » Carol Wallace - Buried In response to message posted by Car:No, I don't think I ever did take a photo of it. When I say buried, I mean buried! A photo would only look chaotic. Next spring all the roses have to be cut back really hard - and then maye the gentians will become visible again. -- posted by Carol Wallace » Red - Gentian Blues... This is a great article and like Carol, I enjoyed the reference to homesickness. My grandson could relate to that easily. Thanks for submitting this article to the Nature's Treasures Event. It is a welcome addition. I am going now to approve it and list it under Flowering Beauties. I appreciate your participation and support. -- posted by Red
