» CarolWallace - Growing in the wild

I have to laugh, because I have one gentian and it thrives - but it is planted in an area of my too-large garden that gets almost no attention once the bog display of roses is finished in late June. SO it is nearly in the wild. I had planned to move it so it would show off better - but after reading this I may leave it.

I only wish I had one in that "gentian blue" - which I think is one of the most gorgeous blues imaginable. Mine is a sort of blue-gray - a good neutral in the garden, I guess - but not the blue I had hoped it would be.

I love that about the picked gentian dying of home-sickness. I suspect that could be said about many flowers - what a nice way to explain it to a child who can't otherwise understand that some plants should be left alone.
