Several years ago I worked at the headquarters of the Sylvania Lighting Co., in Danvers, Massachusetts. In the field beyond our parking lot, stood a pear tree enclosed in a fence. I was told it was the oldest pear tree in the United States.

It was planted by Governor Endicott from seeds brought from England, in the 1600s. If you'd like to read more about it, here is an article from the Danvers Historical Society.

Your article make me want to head to the store to find a juicy pear and partake of this oft' forgotten fruit.

I made a pear tart a while ago, but it did not get the raves I like when I cook. Now, making an upside-down gingerbread cake sounds really yummy.

Your graphics are so good, you almost want to pluck the pear off the tree and eat it!
