Zoning Laws Are The Real CulpritRead the article this discussion is about

» K_J_L - Zoning This is sadly so true! In our city, there is so much traffic now that they are widening all the main streets, which, of course, means tearing down the old houses that line them. All for the cars! (a single purpose). As the city develops and land becomes more scarce, our city officials have also made known that they favor "infilling" - which means tear down the historic structures to build the new monoliths. We have lost so many homes to "progress".Rehabilitation or alternate usage doesn't even seem to be considered. We live in an 1850's farmhouse that we've been restoring for over a decade. I'm so glad we bought it then, because I'm sure it would have been torn down long ago for redevelopment. There are cities around that treasure their history and zone to protect it. Others just zone for progress.-- posted by K_J_L
