» dagreat - Your forgeting some...

While I agree with SteveJ...(its all subjective),
I can't let this thread continue without mentioning some of the best... Rakim, Kool G. Rap, Kool Keith and Ced Gee (Ultramagnetic), Big Daddy Kane

In the mid 80's, It was these artists that pushed hip hop lyricsm to the next level. And just when I thought that noone could ever come close to spittin lyrics like Rakim... Nasty Nas stepped up, and blew everyones mind.

Lets not forget some newcommers like Jay-Z, Planet Asia, Dialated Peoples, and many more.

» JS_Mill - LL Cool J before he went soft.

Before he turned into a pop star, you couldn't beat LL. Just my opinion.

And you've gotta think about Chuck D too. Can't think of anyone who actually changed the direction of hip hop like he did.

» fdbii - who's the best mc

well in my opinion the best should be someone with lyrical skills that blow your mind. In songs its true beats make a difference but in this matter all you look at is the lyrics adn no one is better than Big Pun. Some may say he hasn't been hot or around that long but he has beyond what I would call lyrical skill this is why I think he is the best.

» srk3079 - King of Hip hop

No matter what anyone says, Biggie Smalls is the illest. There is no other rapper out here now that can touch Big. He had a gift that no one else had. There is not a song on Big albums that you be like I don't like that song. Big was on some next sh**. The only rapper that I can say can come near Big Is Jay-Z and Nas. Juat like Jigga said: "who's your favorite MC, Biggis, Jay-z or Nas. And that's the truth. Big still live today. NOTORIOUS

» nasser - whos the most talented

the most talented ever is either jay-z or biggie
I exclud nas because he's falling off quickly. tupac isnt because his strength was in his ability to transform concepts into words, but that was the extent of his talent. and to clear up that 7,000,000 sold as being the highest ever from a rapper is wrong. will smith has sold more, biggie sold 8 mil, hammer sold more than that and vanilla ice sold 15 mil. personally as a rapper, no one has seperated his self as the lone most talented. biggie is only being called the best because hes a hip hop martyr, and he was on top when he died. I promise you this. and everybody remember the name SHOWCASE, I WILL BE THE BEST EVERY WHEN ITS ALL OVER!!! I have the next level lyrics and the flow that will hold the attention of the average listner: versatility is not a problem . so watch out whoever, plus Im only 17 and im letting everybody i come across from jadakiss to jay-z, peace.

» Icebergslim - Who's the greatest ?????

Everybody asks the question and since everybody has different opinions the question will always be asked but to me there is no doubt in my mind BIG is the greatest second Jay-Z after that you got Nas Pac and alot of others

Why is BIG so tight it was his gift to tell stories he made you see the song For instance Niggas Bleed he talked in the first second and thrid person to me its not even a song its a short story you could even make a movie off it
he was also very versitle he could talk bout anything and he sounded good over any beat he is hands down the best and if you want proof listen to his songs the proof is there

Now as for Jigga he got the versitlity of BIG but the story telling skill arent equal but he too can rap bout anything listen to Where Im From for those who dont belive that Jigga is tight its on his second CD vol 1 which is probably his best even though alot of people knocked it just a sample " I'm from the place where the church is the flakiest/ niggas prayed to god so long that they athiest/ where you cant put your vest away/ and say you wear it tommorow cause the day after we'll be saying damn i was just wit him yesterday/I'm a block away from hell/ not enough blocks away for stay shell/a ounce away from a triple beam still using the hand held weight scales/ you laughing you know the place well/ where the liquor stores embased well/and government what government niggas politics demselves/where we call the cops the A-team cause the hop out the van and spray things/ and life espectancy so low we making our wills at 18s/where how you get rid of guy who step outta line your rep solitifies/ so tell me when i rap you think i give a f##k who critize/ if this s##t is lies/ god strike me/and i got a question/are you forgiving guys that live just like me we'll neva know/ one day I prayed to you and said if i ever blow i'll let em know/ promise fullfilled/stil i feel my job aint done/ cough up a lung where im from .....Marcy Son

thats jigga at his best i think listen to Dope man second verse too

BIG an Jigga cant be touched not by no krs or rakim not even my man nas ... nobody can see brooklyn's finest... nobody

Although I disagree about LL, no one can dispute that Chuck D is one of the most influential rappers ever. Public Enemy was more ahead of their time than any rap group with the possible exception of The Coup.
