» Gloria_Morris - This is a subject close to my heart Thanks for the article, Laura! I've been looking for rare breed sheep for our farm. Always good to see what other people think of fleeces. Good job!-- posted by Gloria_Morris » lauraphillips - Re: This is a subject close to my heart In response to message posted by Gloria_Morris:Weren't you considering Leicester Longwools? LauraP -- posted by lauraphillips » Gloria_Morris - Re: Re: This is a subject close to my heart Yes, I am considering Leicester Longwools, but they are so rare that building a flock appears to be a very daunting (and expensive) proposition. I've found a possible ram, but ewes are hard to get. I've yet to find a ewe for sale. Most people seem to keep their ewes and sell only excess rams. Perhaps I've picked too rare a breed! Time will tell whether I am able to get them, both in terms of scarcity and available money.-- posted by Gloria_Morris » lauraphillips - Re: Re: Re: This is a subject close to my heart In response to message posted by Gloria_Morris:I've met two people in the last year who raise Cotswolds, which are a little easier to get than Leicester's but still pretty rare. Both built their herds when an elderly owner's illness forced a sale. I hope you don't have to wait for those circumstances, and I certainly wouldn't wish anyone ill. It wouldn't hurt to stay in touch with any breeders you meet while you're searching. -- posted by lauraphillips
