» Renie_Burghardt - Welcome! Hi Laura, welcome to the Suite. What a neat topic. I love it. And I see you're in the beautiful state of MO! So am I. I raise Silkies, which are on the endangered domestic animals list, I've been told. Anyway, I enjoyed your first article and look forward to more. Good to have you here!Renie -- posted by Renie_Burghardt » lauraphillips - Silkies Silkies are so pretty, definitely a heritage breed. The 1997 SPPA list shows them as an old breed, but they're not on their critical list nor the ALBC's current priority list. I consider that good news.-- posted by lauraphillips » lauraphillips - Re: Farming Jerri - It was foreign to me when I started, too. Hybrid vigor and ever-higher production were the watch words where I grew up. I knew of some people who had longhorns and others who had Highland cattle, but they were just novelties. Biodiversity wasn't a big topic then and there.LauraP -- posted by lauraphillips » Gloria_Morris - Great Topic! Great topic, Laura! I'm looking forward to your future articles on the subject, particularly sheep breeds, as I'm still pondering which I will raise on our farm.-- posted by Gloria_Morris » maveric9 - heritage breeds Hi Laura. You must have been talking about Mr. RM Holliday, the man credited with single handedly saving the mulefoot breed of hogs from extinction. Mr. Holliday recently decided to retire, and graciously passed the torch on to us, by allowing us to purchase all of his remaining hogs. When you are ready to add them to your farm, let us know! You will love having mulefoots. They are a beautiful and hardy breed.-- posted by maveric9
