Tofu Tidbit?

» Schmoopy - Re: What can YOU do with Tofu? In response to message posted by LeanneEly:Tofu confuses me. I've used it in stir fry and it's good, but it doesn't have the same consistency that it does in my favorite Thai restaurant. What do they do to give it that semi-crispy texture - deep fry it? -- posted by Schmoopy » AprilMist - Re: What can YOU do with Tofu? In response to message posted by LeanneEly:Leanne, I am a new member here, but have used tofu quite a bit. I slice the firm tofu and marinate it in soy sauce, lemon juice, garlic, and ginger for 20 to 30 minutes, then either fry it in olive oil or broil it until browned on both sides. I also make meatless loaves with it--put in your oatmeal or bread crumbs, spices, and whatever else you put in meatloaf. Meatless balls-same thing, then saute until browned. Other varieties of tofu I make Tofu scramble with the soft silken for breakfast. And Tofu spinach quiche. Hope this helps. -- posted by AprilMist » frugalmommy - Tofu I use tofu all the time. One of myfavorites is tofu smoothies. I had one for breakfast this morning. It was delicious. 1/2 cup tofu. 1/2 cup skim milk, 1 frozen banana, 3 ice cubes, and 1 1/2 tbsp natural peanut butter. YUM! Sometimes I make them with frozen berries instead of banana and peanut butter. Last night we had tofu eggplant saute for supper. That was delicious too. And I have a good pasta salad recipethat has tofu in it. Also use tofu to make my own veggie burgers much cheaper than Morningstar or Boca.-- posted by frugalmommy
