» cl08 - Healthy New Year's Resolution
While the traditional time for a New Year's resolution has passed, I find myself sorting ideas in my mind to accomplish a better lifestyle as we are approaching February, 2001.-- posted by cl08
» mom2abcd - My Year 2001 Goals
I think all moms of young children are tired a lot, but I was diagnosed with CFIDS several years ago. Thank God He has made me aware of several people who have been helped with this problem nutritionally. I finally got up the energy to pursue this and with cutting out white flour and sugar, grinding fresh grains for homemade bread, etc. I AM FEELING BETTER! (The grain/bread thing is not as hard as it sounds, ladies:o) The sugar thing is:o(I'm so glad to have connected with this group through the Healthy Foods newsletter, which I connected with through Vickilynn's Real Food Digest. God is providing me with RESOURCES! and I am so thankful. (Thank you, Leanne, for sharing your knowledge with us:o)
My goals are to continue to learn and implement healthy practices for our family. We do need to eat more vegies. (I THOUGHT we were doing good with vegies at every lunch and supper. Better than most Americans, I guess, but not enough). We will be investigating healthy water this year, toothpaste, shampoos and skin products, non-toxic cleaners, etc. Lots to learn!!! I am so thankful for the internet and being able to learn from others there. God bless you all in your plans for the New Year!

» kurt1u - Healthier Eating Made Easier
My resolution regarding health is to make it easier for my husband and I to eat healthier meals. We've done really well so far with our one-year old in terms of only giving him good, healthy, whole foods, in addition to breastmilk, the healthiest, freshest, whole food of all. But recently, we've loosened up about what we let him try. I realize eventually he will be eating all the good- and bad-for-you foods Mommy and Daddy eat. The only way to make sure he grows up eating well is to change our own habits.I already subscribe to the Healthy Foods newsletter and I'm going to start learning about the Frozen Assets style of cooking. We definitely gravitate to convenience foods (we eat a lot of frozen pizza) when the other option is to "fix something" and we're hungry now! If there is something healthy that's just as easy, we will usually eat it.
Part of this is working on my tendency toward sugar. I'm trying to be aware of when my hormones may be causing the carbohydrate cravings. When I can recognize it, I seem to be able to control it more. That's when getting out of the house, preferably for a walk, really helps. That's gets into another issue, but I think this is enough of a resolution already…
(By the way, someone else posted that breastfeeding causes loss of bone density. Good news, according to our certified nurse-midwife (http://www.allgodsbabies.com/), prolonged breastfeeding actually decreases the likelihood of osteoporosis, as well as several types of cancer.)

My resolution is to quit smoking. I have prepared for this through the entire year of 2000. First, by creating my own space in the house, all the way down to the cupboards. Second, I went shopping-- posted by 1coolmom2
» frycook - Healthy New Year's Resolution...
My healthy New Year's Resolution is to be aware of everything in my environment. Although I do look at this in relation to food, I am more concerned about what is going into my body through breathing! Since I was diagnosed with asthma, I have become super concious of what may or may not become a possible asthma attack for me.In my home, I am committed to changing our air filters once a month, removing any foods that I know cause me or my children allergic reactions (ie, some wheat products, some spices), and making an all out effort to vacuum every other day.
At work, I am aware of my reactions as I go into different buildings. Allergens such as mold, dander, dust mites, etc. can wreak havoc on people's sinuses and breathing without them knowing about it.
Air pollution in buildings is just another substance that enters our body that we can control when we are aware! Just as we should respect the foods we eat, the air we breathe is important also.

I really need to lose some weight so I am trying to pay attention to the basic four food groups, increase exercise and cut the fat. I find it hard to exercise after working fulltime but it is something I need to do for my health.-- posted by autumnsister

» asnow - Five a Day
I've decided to try to fit in as many fruits and veggies as possible. Some days I get more than five, some days I get none, but I think that if you do the right things for your body at least 80% of the time, that your body is more forgiving during that 20% of the time that you may not be so healthy...-- posted by asnow
» ladyguinevere - My Healthy New Year!!
I have been very slack in my eating habits over the last year and used to be very good at not over eating and eating good wholesome nutritious foods. My New Years resolution is to make sure that I start a good healthy eating habits for myself as well as my family. We had gotten into the habit of going out to eat more often which of course enables you to eat a good amount of not so good food. I have begun to make more of my own meals and making healthier choices as far as food. My partner is not a vegetable eater so I am trying to sneak vegetables into his diet with as little pain as possible. My son is a good vegetable eater so I have no problem there. I guess all in all I want to make sure we all live long and healthful. Thanks for listening!-- posted by ladyguinevere
» ali62 - My Healthy New Years Resolution Is...
I'm not usually one for resolutions. I don't drink, I have quit smoking, biting my nails, and road rage driving all on my own,, without the benefit of a 1/1/resolution! This year however was different, after suffering from a series of unexplained medical problems -my hair falling out, insomnia, depression, pinched nerves, and a backache so painful that it forced the closing of a l7 year old home childcare business that had been very successful. My conclusion was that despite the fact that I gave my all to my husband, 4 childeren, and my charges...I gave very little to myself. I was stressed out of my mind, and my nutrition consisted of a handful of vitimans, herbs, and a tripple expresso with ice cream in the morning .(the ice cream provided my daily requirement for dairy.) Lunch and dinner were not much better and as far as excercise, that was running up an down the stairs 50 times a day to do chores. I did give myself l0 minutes a day to shower...that was my alone time. did I meniton that my daycare was 24hrs????? My resolution was to give to myself! I closed my business, started taking time for myself, began eating healthy full meals (while seated), and began practicing yoga, and meditation. I decided too GIVE TO MYSELF!!! I am a better mother, and person. I hope to get back to work, but a healthy ME can never be replaced.-- posted by ali62
