» CrabApple - The Sun

Robert, Great article. The sun is a great friend and a powerful foe.I love the sunshine, it makes me feel good and I get out in it as often as I can(mainly to garden). It lifts my spirit, it also improves our family life as we get outside for a BBQ of a family walk, it invites us to exercise, like all good things too much of it can be dangerous, I am a past sufferer of melanoma. I am one of the lucky ones, and 25 years later I have no signs of any reoccurrence. Everything in moderation.

Thanks again for the good words. yes, I believe we have negelected the power and health benefits of the sun. We are all so afraid of getting cancerthat we stop ourselves from enjoying what nature has provided for our health. I'm glad to hear your own cancer has not recurred or left you with too deep a fear of something so healthful as the sun. Moderate exposure is necessary for health. I don't mean sunburn or even sun tan. Just being outdoors is enough.

Thanks again for your kind comments. It means a lot to me that someone like yourself is enjoying my work.

Peace,

Bob

» jerrib - Sun Is Great

I agree with crabapple. I couldn't imagine a day without it, but we do get lots of them here in NW WA State! Sun escapes us for a better part of the year.

Not every physician agrees about the effect of sunlight's relationship with mental health. But it's a factor, albeit in my own mind, that I feel better when the sun's out. My spirit is lighter. Gray was not ever my favorite color!

And I, like crabapple, am a melanoma survivor. You can get the damaging effects of sun rays even with cloud cover. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. are the worst times to be unprotected.

So, enjoy that sun! Garner the benefits, as you mention, but do wear sunscreen.

Thanks,

Jerri
