I used to be on the patch and I was on it for about four to six months. I decided to get off the patch, because my husband and I wanted to try to get pregnant. My doctor told me that I am showing signs of PCOS. So right now I am taking Metformin. I going to see another doctor this morning for a second opinion. I hate going through all of this. I think the patch has more hormones than the pill. One doctor told me that I have a hormone inbalance. So I think the patch screwed my hormones.
-- posted by msanderson_04 » kris333 - A little advice Hi Everyone!I had started the patch after my second daughter was born. That was Oct. '02. I stopped in Dec.'04, and have not been regular since. I am trying to get pregnant again. I am now on my 2nd round of Provera, (period inducing medicine), and my 3rd round of Clomid(fertility meds). If this doesn't work, next step is an infertility specialist! As msandersonn and I have, I strongly suggest anyone who is having problems, whether you are trying to conceive or not, call your doctor. I have a number of friends that have had similar problems with the patch. I actually do not know anyone who became regular after being on it! If not for any other reason, just to be safe. I am very pleased with this particular doctor. He was very nice. He explained everything to me. He did a vaginal ultrasound to check my ovaries. He said my cervix looked good and my ovaries looked good also. He said based on that is a very good chance of me getting pregnant soon. He also mentioned he wanted me to go lab work done. I went this afternoon to get that done. The technician said I should have those results back on Tuesday and they will fax them over to my doctor. The doctor told me that my hormones are inbalanced, but he can't give me a full diagnosis until he gets those lab results back. Now, my insurance doesn't cover a lot when it comes to family planning/infertility, but I am willing to pay for his services. He seems to be the right doctor to persue. I basically just want my body to be normal again. I hope everything goes well for everyone else. My husband and I would like to try for a second child but after reading about everyone's problems I am concerned that I may have infertility problems because of the patch. I am 36 and don't want to wait too long to get pregnant. I am seeing a nurse practioner next week because I couldn't get in to see a doctor until mid-October. Good luck to all you out there who are trying to conceive after Ortho Evra/Depo shots. I was really fearing that I am unable to have anymore children. I was on the patch for almost 4 years, took it off the end of May this year and evey month since then my periods are 2.5 weeks late. Heavy and tons of cramping. I too am trying to get pregnant. My periods were totally normal before I was put on the patch. When I went to the dr. to choose a b.c. method, I specifically said I do not want one that will make me gain weight or make it hard for me to become pregnant when I want to get off of it. She told me that since this was a low dose delivered transdermally that it will not affect that. Well obviously they do not test these things well before putting them on the market! My friend took 5 years to get pregnant after 1 shot of depo. This is why I do not believe women should be on any sort of birth control. It just messes everything up.Also about the stomach pains, I have had those too, I thought for sure I was pregnant with all the things that were going on after I stopped. My doctor prescribed Provera a couple of weeks ago to induce a period, but I held off taking it because I was hoping my body would take over. Since nothing has happened, I started taking it tonight. It did not work the first time. So I just want to tell you to be patient. My doctor said it might take a couple of times. Good luck! I went off the patch in Dec. 04, and I am still trying. It's tough when everyone keeps asking, "so when are you guys going to have another one?" I keep hoping that my body will even out by itself also. But it looks like it would be best to go to the doctor and get my levels checked out and such. I'm just really scared that this has affected me for life. There's nothing like having your livelyhood being messed with.
