Has anyone ever thought about filing a class act law suit, regarding this? I've been thinking seriously about persuing this.

There is actually a class action law suit that was filed on July 27, 2005 pertaining to the effects the patch had on causing clots in a 30 yr. old Mother of two. There have been no reported suits for infertility problems after use of the patch. Unfortunately, on the information insert in the package, (I copied this directly from orthoevra.com) states;
"PREGNANCY AFTER STOPPING ORTHO EVRA®
There may be some delay in becoming pregnant after you stop using ORTHO EVRA®, especially if you had irregular menstrual cycles before you used hormonal contraceptives. It may be best to postpone conception until you begin menstruation regularly once you have stopped using ORTHO EVRA® and want to become pregnant.
There does not appear to be any increase in birth defects in newborn babies when pregnancy occurs soon after stopping hormonal contraceptives." The problem with this statement is that it does not state how long, or give any other information than what is written above as to the effects the patch might have in re: to infertility after its use. I just wish I would have known of the possible problems getting pregnant after use before I started using the patch in the first place!

Yeah I think I heard something about that too. When I was first perscriped to start taking the patch, I read everything that was in the pamplet they give you from the pharmancy, but I didn't see anything that the patch can cause infertility. I just wish I had never ever choose this type of birth control from the get go. I would had rather gotten pregnant back to back, verses going through this. I did go to my doctors appointment today and the doctor told me to take provera and some type of diabetes medication called Metformin. I took a diabetes fasting glucose test last month, and the results came out ok. I don't have diabetes, but he wants me to take this medication. (It doesn't make any sense to me) I have one question to ask you, and that is are over weight or have you gained extra pounds lately? The reason why I asked this question is because I am a little bit over weight and the doctor wants me to loose weight, because if I loose some weight my hormone levels may go back to normal. In a sense I don't buy this, but then again he may be right. I also wish I never took the patch too, but you live and you learn.

Yes, I am a little over weight, but when I asked my doctor if losing weight would help, he said that my weight shouldn't have any effect on my progesterone levels. That is my problem, my levels are really low. For my own health, I have been trying to shed some pounds, so whether or not it helps remains to be seen. As for now, my doctor has me taking 150mg of Clomid on day 5, assuming that I get my period again? He is hoping that this will rectify any problem. When I call him tomorrow, I will have to find out the next step, which I am assuming is another round of Provera! Keep your head up,! :0)

So, how is everyone doing now? It's been a few days since any of you have updated what's going on with you.

Well, I had my appointment yesterday, and the Dr. suspects a hormone imbalance from extended usage of Depo Provera, and then the patch. My bleeding has stopped, but if it starts back up too soon, he will put me on a low dose pill to level things out for a while. I am just soooo relieved that I don't have fibriods! That was really my biggest fear.

Keep us posted as to how you all are doing, okay?

» jenni4 - is pregnancy possible ever again?

I am so enraged right now! I thought that I was the only one going through the withdrawal nightmares of the patch. I am depressed knowing that many people are seeking infertility treatment now. I always had normal periods, I have a 2-year-old and and a 1-year-old with getting pregnant quickly each time and then my doctor talked me into using the patch. We are ready for the third one and I have not had a period in 6 weeks and have had a negative result on 3 pregnancy tests. I had a normal period right after I quit using the patch and then nothing. My doctor wants me to wait one more week before doing anything. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? Has anyone become pregnant after going off the patch? IF ANYONE PUTS TOGETHER A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST THIS PRODUCT, PLEASE INCLUDE ME!!!!!

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I haven't had a period over one year now. The last birth control I used was the patch. I think it caused me to have a hormone inbalance. In the past I've been on the pills and had an IUD, and I was able to have my periods after using those. So based on this, I honestly believe that the patch messed me up with having a period and plus being able to get pregnant again. I have one child and I would like to have at least two more. I have another doctors appointment tomorrow. I want a second opinion, so that's why I am going there tomorrow.

Since the last time I wrote, I hadn't gotten my period since I took the Provera to bring it on in July. I have been calling my doc's office, and after several phone calls they told me that he is on Vacation, and since each doctor has their own regimen for treating infertility patients, that I would have to wait until 9/7/05 when he gets back to see what the next step is. Like I have said before, I finally have it all together, and am real excited to have another baby, and it seems like the patch screwed that all up! What did the 2nd opinion doctor say? I wonder if the doctor's know of any problems post patch?

» ksskeen - Re: is pregancy possible again??

I have a 3 y/o daughter. After her birth, my doc recommended the patch for me, too. It sounded great! We've decided to try again for another child now. I've only been off the patch for 1 month. BUT...I'm 1 week late and preg tests are negative. I just decided tonight to look online to see if there was any info re: when you get your period back after using the patch. I found this website. I AM IN SHOCK! I AM SCARED! This is the first I've heard this type of info!!! I do have a friend that got pregnant the first month off of the patch, however. So maybe there is hope! If anyone has any links/more info about this, PLEASE WRITE BACK!!

Well, I didn't go to that appointment, because when I called that doctor's office on the day before the appointment, the lady told me that they didn't have my info. and she didn't see my name in the system. So therefore I had to schedule another appointment for a later date. My appointment is scheduled for Sept. 23rd. Since this happened, I called another doctors office for an appointment, so that appt. is scheduled for tomorrow morning. I will keep you posted. I was thinking maybe I should try taking birth control pills for a while. Maybe that will bring my system back to normal. I think I am going to mention this to the doctor. What do you think?
